The song was written by lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea, and produced by Chas Chandler. It was the band’s sixth and final number-one single in the UK.


Noddy Holder told about the writing of “Merry Xmas Everybody” in an interview with the Daily Mail in 2007, “We’d decided to write a Christmas song and I wanted to make it reflect a British family Christmas.Economically, the country was up the creek.
