Change the VPN settings in Network Preferences on Mac

Use the VPN pane of Network Preferences on your Mac to set up and manage your VPN connection.

To change these preferences on your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Network, then select VPN Service from the list on the left.

If there is a lock at the bottom left of the Network pane, click it to unlock the Preferences pane.

Service List

List of network services.

Create a new network service: Click the Add button, click the interface pop-up, and then choose the type of network service you want to create. Type a name in the Service name field, then click Create.

Remove network service: Select the network service you want to remove, then click the Remove button.

Network service management: Click the Action pop-up menu, then choose an option. You can duplicate a service, rename a service, make the service inactive, set a service command, import or export configurations, and manage virtual interfaces.

Enter the password for the VPN account.

Enter the local ID of the VPN account.

This option appears for IKEv2 VPN connections.

Authentication settings

Enter the authentication details for the account.

Connection

Disconnect

Connect or disconnect the selected VPN service.

Show VPN status in menu bar

Include the VPN status in the menu bar.

Use the VPN status menu to connect to the VPN, disconnect from the VPN and monitor the amount of time you are connected to the VPN.

Set VPN session options.

Contact on demand

Automatically start the VPN connection when needed.
