Why set up a VPN on your router?
Setting up a router with a VPN connection can be convenient if you have a lot of devices that you want to protect. It’s also useful if you have devices that don’t directly support VPN settings.

Please note that since December 1, 2018, NordVPN no longer supports L2TP / IPsec And PPTP links. This means that some routers no longer support secure VPN connections. You can read more about it by clicking here.
Not sure if your router is supported and/or you can’t find it in the above list?
Then let’s find out if it is compatible or not. Before proceeding, it is best to first check the list of unsupported routers.
When you’re done, you’ll need to find the user manual that came with your router. If you don’t have it nearby, don’t worry: it can usually be found on the manufacturer’s website. Inside the user manual, look for any references to OpenVPN support. You must specify whether the router supports or not OpenVPN serverAnd Customer, or both. To be able to setup VPN, Router must support OpenVPN Customer, Whether with or without a server option.

In the event that you cannot find anything on OpenVPN in the directory, it is possible that the router will not be supported. However, you can always double-check by contacting your retailer and asking about OpenVPN client support.
Please keep in mind: Most routers issued by your ISP do not support VPN configurations. Additionally, if the router lists a supported protocol in “pass through” the situation, It probably won’t work. “Pass-through” simply means that the router is not blocking VPN connections from the devices connected to it. However, this does not mean whether you can configure the router itself.
Tip: Don’t forget to use a strong password on your router, as it will help you avoid uninvited guests on your network.
