Does Acer also have its own antivirus? – Acer Community

The nice thing about Microsoft is that there are many interlocking tools that work together. The first is Windows Defender which is basically a signature scanner. When something is offered to download or execute, Windows Defender will check for known viruses/worms/trojans/ and logic bombs. Although the keyword is ‘known’, it’s only as good as its most recent definition and running all the stuff (although autosend is optional).
The second thing I use is EMET (Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit) also from Microsoft. This is more of a behavior blocking tool and a heuristic analysis tool of the signature scanner. It detects, blocks or notifies the user of things that no program should do. Mine is set to “maximum security…) with all chests green.
The third thing I do is set UAC to “always notify”.
Finally, I have a user account which is usually where I live with a separate local admin account that is password protected. This does not need to be complicated because the hash is secure enough. The key is to agree to privileged operations.
And this is for a general use device (email, browsing, etc), I have other offline devices that I use for more interesting things.
ps and when in doubt, Windows Defender has an option to perform an offline scan during boot up and before anything is loaded. Being able to quickly kill all the power of this machine is a good thing.
