How do I add ExpressVPN to my Windows 10 VPN list?

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»

I noticed that Microsoft Windows 10 includes support for VPNs. Very pleasant. How do I connect ExpressVPN, my favorite VPN, to Win10, so it’s default?

I also like ExpressVPN It finds a strong balance between affordability, speed and reliability. I think it is one of the best VPNs out there. Don’t have a VPN yet? You may want to check out ExpressVPN. Not sure of the benefits? Privacy. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) allow you more privacy and anonymity on the Internet with point-to-point encryption. This means that even if the wifi you’re on is monitored, you’ll be clear about your connections to and from the rest of the internet being encrypted from your browser to the VPN server itself. Useful even if you don’t want people to snoop on your Amazon purchases.

However, dealing with VPNs can be a bit tricky, which is why it’s so helpful that Microsoft puts VPN support directly into Windows 10 and lets you start it automatically every time you boot. Lots of major companies have their own VPN servers as well, ensuring that sales and support staff in the field can communicate securely and privately with the headquarters. However, do you really want the manager to know every webpage you visit, every email you get, every time you go to Netflix?

Enter Private VPN, a service for clients and other network users. Lots and lots of options but one of my favorites is ExpressVPN. Setting it up is a good guide on how to setup any VPN for Win10, so let’s just take a look.

To get started, you’ll need some data from the ExpressVPN service. It can be easily found by going to their website at expressvpn.com. You will need to log into your account and then go to the setup area. It looks like this:

Well, not quite like that because you need to choose Manual Setup from the list of devices on the left side. Then the window on the right pops up. Make sure to clickPPTP and L2TP-IPSec“As an option!

In the right window you will see a username and password displayed. You will need these. A little further down, you will also see a list of servers by hostname. Click on the continent you want, and it will open up a lot of options for you. like him:

Now, go to the Windows Start Menu and search for β€œVPN” as a shortcut to get to the Win10 VPN configuration screen:

The default is what you’re looking for, so click “Change Virtual Private Networks (VPN) system configuration. Here is the window:

No wonder here, click on the β€œ+Add VPN Connection” link near the top. You’ll see a blue window with a bunch of different fields to enter – most of which I just got from the ExpressVPN website!

You can see how I’ve filled it out so far, in particular including the server name. It’s a little confusing, but you’ll want to choose “Windows (Embedded)” as your VPN provider. Most importantly, choosePoint-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)As the VPN connection type. Enter host, then enter username and password exactly as shown on the ExpressVPN website (obviously copy and paste) and clickMemorizes“.

he did. This is. really! Now there’s a new VPN in town:

Click on it and you will see the different options:

You can go to this window and click “ConnectionEvery time you want to connect to ExpressVPN, but check it out, it’s now also an entry on the connection shortcut, as you can see here:

This makes it incredibly easy to choose ExpressVPN – or whatever VPN you’ve configured – anytime you want an extra layer of privacy for your network connection.

I will also refer in passing that ExpressVPN It has its own Windows client app too if you prefer to use that. It’s great and makes using your ExpressVPN account easy. However, having a VPN built into Windows is undoubtedly a great thing.

Disclaimer: I’ve been a huge ExpressVPN user and fan for years. I have also used affiliate links throughout this article; You’ll pay the exact same price if you want to try it out to use your VPN, but it will also help us keep the server running as well. Thanks!
