How to find VPN server address and check its location
It’s no secret that VPNs often use virtual locations, which is a legitimate way for them to offer connectivity across countries where using physical (metal) servers can be an issue. However, not all VPNs are equally honest when it comes to their virtual locations, and the quickest way to check this is to find and test the VPN server address.
With that said, this guide will show you how to find a VPN server address, and we’ll expand that knowledge by showing you how to test your VPN servers. Let’s jump right in!
Step #1: Find the IP address or server address of the VPN
There are several ways to access your VPN server addresses. However, keep in mind that not all VPNs are willing to provide this information to the public. In general, there should be no reason for a VPN to hide their server addresses, especially those who market themselves as VPNs with no logs.
With that said, know that there are two ways to move forward. The easiest way is offered by VPNs that list their servers to the public. For example, some of these VPNs are NordVPN, PrivateVPN, TorGuard, and PureVPN. Use the link provided to access their VPN server addresses.
Other VPNs do not list their VPN server addresses publicly, but are willing to provide this information upon request. In general, any VPN that allows you to set up connections manually (or on a VPN compatible router) will be happy to provide server addresses (as required to set up a VPN connection manually).

Step #2 (Optional): Test Your VPN Connection
Now, you can start testing your VPN servers. However, since we want to be precise, we will ask you to access your VPN. If you don’t have it (if you have a server address instead), you can proceed to the next step. Therefore, do the following:
1. Turn on your VPN client and connect to the server. This is done using your VPN client interface, but you can also set up manual connections for the same purpose.
2. Next, visit WhatIsMyIP.com to test your web connection data. You should see IPv4, IPv6, local IP addresses, your city, country, and even your ISP. Of course, all this data will come from your VPN connection. In other words, none of your “real” or “real” data should appear on any websites to check IP addresses.
3. Now, go a step further and visit IPLocation.net. We recommend using this website as it relies on several geolocation providers. Therefore, you will test your VPN server more thoroughly, and check for any data leaks. Also, pay attention to the VPN server location listed there, as you shouldn’t see any inconsistencies.
Step #3: Test the IP address or server address of the VPN
Now it’s time to check if your VPN server is a physical or virtual unit. We will do this by pinging the server, and finding out its true location. Do the following.
1. First, make sure you are connected to your VPN using any available server. However, make a note of the server you chose (remember its country or city). However, if you don’t have access to a VPN and just want to check its server address, you can just go through with this information.
2. Use any web browser to visit Ping.pe. After a few moments, the website will read your IP address providing a whole wealth of information. Next, you need to note your IP address, which appears at the top of the website. Alternatively, you can proceed with just the VPN server address (taken from your VPN location, for example).
3. Enter the IP address or server address in the “Ping” field, which is located at the top of the Ping.pe page. Then press the “Go” button and wait a few minutes for the test to finish.
4. The website will connect to the chosen IP/server address from more than 30 locations around the world. Watch the “Best” column and select the lowest ping value. This may indicate the real location of the chosen VPN server, based on the IP address or address of the server.
5. In the end, the location of the lowest ping value should correspond to the location of your chosen VPN server. If you see a discrepancy there, it indicates that you are using a default VPN location instead.
