How to install a VPN on Windows Server 2012 R2

1. Install the remote access role
open the server manager and click Manages. Choose Add roles and features:
Click next one until you reach roles tab:
Now select remote access and click next one:

Choose Direct Access and VPN (RAS):
A dialog will appear showing the missing dependencies. Click Add features:

2. Install and configure your VPN
Go back to Server Manager Control Panel and click remote access. Select your server and right click it, then click Remote access management:
Run the Getting Started Wizard:

A new wizard will start:
Choose custom configuration and click next one:

Complete the procedure and start the service:
Note that the router and firewall must be properly configured to support VPN functionality. We’ll talk about that in another post.
