How to Setup Free VPN on Kali Linux/Ubuntu? OpenVPN is an open source software application that implements virtual private network (VPN) technologies to create secure point-to-point or site-to-site connections in routed or bulk configurations and remote access facilities. It uses a custom security protocol that uses SSL/TLS to exchange keys. It is capable of traversing network address translators (NATs) and firewalls.

Install OpenVPN in Linux

At first, we need to install OpenVPN in our Linux machine to use the custom CA certificates. To do this, just open Terminal and paste the command below in it.

sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome network-manager-openvpn network-manager-openvpn-gnome

Install Unzip in Linux

Second, we need to install Unzip in our system because we need to download and extract the CA file. To do this, put the below command in your device.

sudo apt-get install – reinstall unzip

Download VPN Certificate

Now, update your device with clear command or simply open a new terminal and paste the command below to download VPN certificate from PIA


Now, to unzip it and put it in the correct folder, use the command below

Unzip -q -d /etc/openvpn

VPN Setup

No. 1: Close any active terminal

Number 2: Click WiFi or network icon and select Edit contacts

Number 3: Choose VPN tab and then click Add

Number 4: Choose OpenVPN From the drop down menu and click Creates

no 5: Now you need to fill in the exact details below in the VPN panel

contact name: PrivateInternetAccess VPN
Gate: <Ψ­Ψ―Ψ― بوابة Ω…Ω† Ψ§Ω„Ω‚Ψ§Ψ¦Ω…Ψ© Ψ£Ψ―Ω†Ψ§Ω‡>
user name: PIA username
password: PIA password
CA Certificate: Browse to /etc/openvpn and select ca.crt

Number 6: Now click advanced button

number 7: Tick ​​the checkbox for “Use LZO data compression

number 8: Finally, tap OKAnd Memorizes and then Nearby
