I use Cisco AnyConnect On your Windows 7 PC to make VPN connections. It also has the ability to connect to WiFi. But I always had problems connecting to WiFi with Anyconnect. The connection drops a lot and keeps saying “Get an IP address“.
AnyConnect installs a service called ‘Network Access ManagerWhich seems to be taking over the original Windows WiFi connection client. So when I click on the network icon in the system tray it says “No connections available” (see below screenshot). Without AnyConnect, it always shows available WiFi connections.
Problem: You receive the message “Unable to continue, cannot connect to the VPN service”. AnyConnect VPN service is not running. Solution: Determine if another application is conflicting with the service by going to Windows Administration Tools and then make sure that Cisco AnyConnect VPN Agent is not running. If it works.
If you are facing the problem, you can try the next solution which worked for me.
- Open the Services Manager console by running Services.msc from Run
- Looking for a serviceCisco AnyConnect Network Access Manager“.
- Right click and stop the service.
- right Now Cisco AnyConnect would sayNAM service not available“
- Windows will now use the native WiFi client to connect to a WiFi network
- When your system restarts, the NAM service will start and may cause the problem again. You can disable this service in the Services Manager console to prevent this.
AnyConnect has settings to disable the NAM feature. But this didn’t work for me. Even after disabling the NAM service, I could not connect to WiFi. Windows network icon shows WiFi connection but gives error “Windows could not connect to…I have followed the steps below to do so.
- Open Anyconnect window and click advanced.
- Clicking on the Networks tab in the right pane.
